Impounded Car Removal

What to do if your car is impounded

Trust us when we say we understand the frustration of dealing with an impounded car. We’re sorry if you’re currently experiencing these troubles, but Titan Towing is here and ready to help. There’s an opportunity for Titan Towing to help lift off some weight if your car is in the Arlington, Fort Worth, or Mansfield areas.

If your car was towed and impounded because you don’t have auto insurance, we can get your vehicle out. You just need to pay your fees and we’ll relocate your vehicle. All we need to relocate your uninsured car is to fill out the correct paperwork. This is something we here at Titan Towing can manage for you. The process is simple and easy.

No one wants to waste time jumping through hoops trying to get their car out of impound. The worst-case scenario is that you’ll spend hours waiting just to find out you have the wrong paperwork. That, or you discover you aren’t financially prepared enough to get your vehicle out. The best way to ensure a swift impounded vehicle removal is to call ahead. Here are some tips to help you navigate the impound process:

  • Make sure your car is located at the lot
  • Find out the business hours
  • Ask how much you owe
  • Ask what forms of payment they accept (very important!)
  • Call ahead to find out what paperwork you need

If you show up without all of the required documents, the lot cannot release your vehicle. Make sure whoever drives you waits no matter how long the line is. If they can’t wait be prepared to order an Uber or Lyft. Otherwise, you risk getting stranded without transportation. Below you’ll find some more guidelines, depending on your circumstance:

If Your Car is in Our Lot After an Accident

In this case, the best thing to do is let your insurance company know immediately. Give them our main office’s phone number and address. That way, your claims adjuster can easily investigate and give you an estimate. After that, they can help guide you through the next steps.

Some adjusters will first move your vehicle before conducting their investigation. After they finish their evaluation, they’ll arrange to have your car taken to a body shop (if it’s repairable). If the vehicle is totaled, we can transport it to your insurance company’s salvage lot. If you have collision coverage on your car, your carrier can take care of the damage.

Even if the accident wasn’t your fault, insurance companies expect you to move your car as soon as possible. This increases the likelihood that you’ll be properly reimbursed.

If Police Towed Your Vehicle

When the police are involved, there are different steps to getting your car released from impound. First, the registered owner of the vehicle—or the designated person via the registered owner on form VSF11—must pay all costs and fees owed before retrieving the vehicle. In the case you’re not the registered owner, you must complete form VSF11, and have a government-issued ID to retrieve your vehicle. After submitting your paperwork and paying the impound fees, you’ll need the following:

  • The city where the vehicle is impounded
  • Make, model, and color of the vehicle
  • License plate and vehicle identification number (VIN)
  • Proof of ownership

Proof of your liability insurance makes this process faster and easier.

For Lienholders Retrieving Vehicles

When a lender finances your car they become an interested party. For that reason, most states require towing companies and impound lots to notify the lienholder when your vehicle is impounded. In most states, the last registered owner is also notified. Either a bank representative or the owner should promptly retrieve the vehicle.

For this particular situation, you’ll need two documents:

  1. Affidavit of Right of Possession (download it from the State of Texas)
  2. POA for Retrieval of Motor Vehicle (download it from the State of Texas)

If the vehicle isn’t picked up by the owner or representative, it can accumulate huge fees. These fees must be paid to pull the vehicle out of the towing yard.
