Drive Safer to Prevent the Need for a Tow

Distracted DriverIn addition to roadside assistance in Arlington, and other areas of DFW, Titan Towing frequently assists drivers whose vehicles have been involved in traffic accidents. Many times, wrecks can be avoided if drivers are more aware of the reasons they occur.

Some of the top reasons for accidents in the DFW area, and around the country, include:

Distracted Driving

Distracted driving is one of the most prevalent reasons for accidents. This includes, but is not limited to, texts and calls, grooming, eating, and talking to others in the vehicle. If you’ve ever driven somewhere and don’t fully remember what you did to get there, that’s distracted driving as well and happens when you are not fully cognizant about driving. Stay alert and fully focused while on the road.

Drunk Driving and Driving Under the Influence of Drugs

Alcohol and drugs (legal and illegal) can cause some of the most dangerous accidents resulting in fatalities on the road. If you are under the influence of any of these substances, let someone sober drive or call a taxi or Uber. If someone you know is under the influence do not allow them to drive.

Speeding and Reckless Driving

Speeding to make it to work, an appointment, or anywhere else, can not only result in a speeding ticket, it can result in reckless driving leading to an accident. If you’re running behind, don’t speed.  Take the time to get to your destination safely instead of causing an accident or just show up late.

Weather

Weather such as rain, sleet, or snow can cause bad road conditions. If you must be on the road in extremely bad weather, pull over and wait for the treacherous weather to pass. Otherwise, slow down as much as possible in inclement weather.

Running Red Lights

Running red lights is a common way to cause an accident. Slow down when you see an orange caution light instead of trying to speed through it and come to a complete stop when a traffic light is red.

Driving at Night with Low Visibility

Night driving, especially in more rural areas of the metroplex can make visibility difficult. If you must be on the road late at night, drive more slowly and always use your bright headlights, as needed for easier visibility, when other cars are not close to approaching.

Distracted Driving CrashCar Defects

Sometimes the defects in vehicles which result in the need for roadside assistance, can result in accidents. Make sure to address any vehicle recalls as quickly as possible and keep your car maintained on a regular basis. Specifically, look at your tires on a regular basis, to avoid flats and blow-outs. If you do have a blow-out, keep control of the car as much as possible and pull over when it’s safe to do so.

Following Too Closely

Always keep a safe distance from the car in front of you, or you may end up in a fender bender or worse. If the car in front of you brakes quickly and you’re following too close, avoiding them may be impossible.

Not Adhering to Street Signs

Not noticing street signs that designate one-way streets or not adhering to signs such as no U-turns can end up causing major accidents. Always follow the instructions on street and highway signs. They are in place to help prevent accidents.

Animals

More and more animals are seen on the roads around the DFW area and especially in the suburbs. Never swerve to avoid hitting an animal, especially at higher speeds. This can cause your vehicle to rollover.

Other reasons for accidents include:

  • Inexperienced drivers
  • Sleepy drivers
  • Pot holes
  • Construction sites

Being more mindful of what can cause an accident to occur will hopefully lessen your need for towing service in Arlington, or any other part of DFW. Stay safe on the road and if you do need roadside assistance or towing, Titan Towing is happy to help at any time day or night.
